Travel/Conference Grants
Department of Asian Studies announces Internal Graduate Student Competitions for Graduate Student Travel/Conference Grants for the 2011-2012 academic year
The department will award a small number of grants to facilitate graduate students’ ability to travel to present their work at conferences or other research venues. Preference will be given to Ph.D. students already advanced to candidacy presenting refereed papers at large, academically prestigious gatherings. The application will consist of: (1) a single page detailing the talk topic, the venue, whether or not the paper was refereed, and a short travel budget; and (2) a short paragraph from the student’s advisor approving the application and explaining the significance of the talk/venue. (Applications can also be made to cover registration fees at local conferences; these, too, will be considered on a competitive basis.)
The deadline for the Fall round is October 14, 2011, and for the Spring round January 20, 2012. Please send applications, attached as a Word document, to the Graduate Secretary, Jasmina Miodragovic, at: asiagrad(at)mail.ubc.ca.
The other travel funding for graduate students include the Graduate Student Travel Fund at a maximum value of $400 once per degree program given by The Faculty of Graduate Studies.
