Graduate Advising
For graduate students looking for information or advice, here are the steps to follow.
If you are looking for information about rules, deadlines, or program requirements, go first to the department website (http://www.asia.ubc.ca/) and the FoGS website (http://www.grad.ubc.ca/) . The most up-to-date and accurate answers to your questions can be found there.
If your particular question about rules, deadlines, or program requirements is not answered on either of the websites, go next to the Asian Studies department graduate secretary, Jasmina Miodragovic (asiagrad(at)mail.ubc.ca).
If you are looking for advice about courses, how best to fulfill program requirements, or general advice about success in graduate work, contact Professor Stefania Burk (sburk(at)mail.ubc.ca) if you are an MA student, or Professor Sharalyn Orbaugh (sharalyn.orbaugh(at)ubc.ca) if you are a PhD student.
Similarly, MA students who have problems they need to discuss (about funding, relationship with supervisor, etc.) should contact Professor Burk, and PhD students with problems should contact Professor Orbaugh.
