Asian Studies nears 50!

2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Department of Asian Studies, and that we hope to mark this milestone with various events and celebrations. A recent check of department records, however, revealed an almost complete absence of archival materials relating to the early decades of the department’s existence. We would dearly love copies or scans of any materials you might have in your personal archives (especially photos) that would help us compile some sort of illustrated history of the department as we edge closer to the 50-year mark.

To share any stories, photos or other materials you may have, please e-mail the material to asian.studies(at)ubc.ca

Be a mentor...

In the tri-mentoring program, you'll have the opportunity to mentor an upper-level UBC student (in their third or fourth year of study) who, in turn, mentors a lower-level UBC student (in their first or second year of study) from their faculty or school.

Benefits of being a mentor

You can:
* Offer students support and inspiration
* Build your professional network
* Improve your communication and leadership skills
* Develop or maintain your UBC connections
* Contribute to the future of your industry by assisting the next generation of leaders

Interested and would like learn more about the program? Email Christine Lee at christine.lee(at)ubc.ca

Be a speaker....

Join us as a speaker for our Careers Night. Share your experiences and career development with students (in second, third and fourth year) who are keen to learn about career opportunities with an Asian Studies degree.

You can:
* share what you did at UBC that helped you succeed
* where you are working now and how you got there
* how you made connections between your program and your current work.
* how to bridge the gap between university and career.

Asian Studies Careers Night, April 2009.
Alumni panelists Catherine Yamamoto and Cynthia Yoo.
