Indonesian

Basic Indonesian - INDO 102 (6) This course is an introduction to the Indonesian language. Spoken and written, deals with all the more important grammatical features of standard Indonesian (Bahasa Indonesia baku) and its syntax and morphology. At the end of the year, students are expected to master a basic vocabulary and grammar that enable them to express issues related to daily needs, discuss everyday topics and read simple text. TEXT: Yohanni Johns: Bahasa Indonesia, Book One. Additional selected learning materials will be supplied by instructor.

Intermediate Indonesian - INDO 200 (6)
This course is an advanced study of Indonesian grammar, and emphasizes vocabulary building. It also provides an introduction to modern Indonesian literature. Readings will include short stories and poetry. Students are expected to be able to a) express ideas/opinions and discuss issues related to daily situational topics using more complex phrases and sentences; b) read and discuss selected reading materials; c) use an expanded vocabulary and synonyms in contextual situations and in essay writing; d) write compositions. TEXT: Yohanni Johns: Bahasa Indonesia, Book One. Other materials (short stories and poetry) to be distributed in class.
